Summer cruising Part 6 San Juan Islands

 Diane and I returned to Roche Harbor for a couple of days of relaxing. This resort was a lime production facility in1881.  Now it is a well known resort on San Juan Island.

Directly across the dock from our boat was a couple that had a very large Sheltie (50 lbs) that Mackenzie (30 lbs) got to meet.  This had to be the largest Sheltie we have ever seen. 

Every evening during the summer the staff at the resort has a lowering the flag ceremony where they play the national anthems of the U.S. and Canada.

Our next stop was Deer Harbor Resort for the Labor Day weekend.  This resort has a very nice marina, cabins and a swimming pool.

We rented a car and took a drive around Orcas Island.  There were several galleries; this is one of our favorites.

The grounds are filled with various types of art from sculptures to pottery.

After two nights at a nearby anchorage, we made our last stop of the season at the hub of the San Juan Islands.  This was after Labor Day weekend and the town of Friday Harbor was fairly quiet.

Our boat is to the right of the photo (across the dock from the large yacht) at the almost empty guest dock.  Up until Labor Day the guest dock is always full.

After we returned to our home port of Anacortes we took a side trip by car to the little town of La Conner, WA.   This town has a quaint downtown with lots of galleries, shops and restaurants.  This is one of many stylish Victorian homes that has been turned into a B & B.

While we were preparing the boat for winter storage we went to check out a machinery show at a near by park.

Summer cruising Part 5 Gulf Islands

We spent a few days with our friends Anita and Phil and their two grand daughters.

Montague Harbor, Gulf Islands

We met our friends Gail and Karen on Duchess for a few days.

We rafted together for a while until the wind forced us to separate and anchor separately.

We spent one night in Sidney.  They have beautiful flowers along the sea wall walkway.

Every piling in the marina has a at least one basket of flowers.

Victoria Inner Harbor

We could easily see the Parliament building from our boat.

We had the fortune of meeting up with our friends, Harry (far left) and Pat (next to Diane) from San Jose, who were moored at the same docks in Victoria.  They were celebrating their anniversary with friends from Portland.

Every Sunday during the summer the little harbor tour tugs put on a performance in the middle of the Inner Harbour.  They perform synchronized maneuvers to the Blue Danube Waltz.

We had the opportunity to visit with our Victoria friends Sven and Elaine.  We had them down to the boat for a visit and then they took us to a very nice Italian restaurant.

Summer cruising 2010 Part 4 Gaylen, Teresa and Dalton's visit

Diane' brother, wife and their grandson drove from Nebraska to cruise with us for several days in late July. Our first night was spent at Roche Harbor on San Juan Island.  The sunset was spectacular.
